Abstract
The purpose of this study is to compare the dental health state between COPD and asthma patients.

Methods: We studied 83 cases of normal dental patients, COPD and asthma patients who attended Konyang University Hospital from January 2002 to October 2005. We evaluated the dental condition of patients by counting the number of missing teeth and grading the alveolar bone loss in bifurcation area.

Results: The number of missing teeth and the state of periodontitis were significantly worse in COPD than asthma and normal subjects (p<0.05). The alveolar bone loss in bifurcation area was significantly increasing as the dosage of smoking was increasing (p<0.05).

Conclusion: This results suggest that COPD is one of the causes of periodontitis and tooth missing.
